VIDEO NASTIES!!!

The Rendezvous Film Club has been showing horror movie double features for the entire month of October featuring films that are known as Video Nasties on their Picarto Channel. You don’t have to worry about finding the films to watch along, they always play a great copy, and the Rendezvous Film Club has an optional chat window where film fanatics gather to discuss the movies, music, and just about everything else.

Here’s a list of the films that were screened each weekend this month:

Rendezvous LA is a film club and DJ collective so there were also curated DJ sets each week before the first movie as well. You can check out the sets here: https://soundcloud.com/rendezvousLA

October 3rd — Kier-La Janisse (House of Psychotic Women)

October 10th — Spencer Hickman (Death Waltz Records/Mondo)

October 17th — Andy Votel (Finder’s Keepers)

October 24th — Skeme Richards (Nostalgia King)

As you can see, Rendezvous really went hard with the Video Nasties, as they screened some of the most infamous titles: I Spit On Your Grave, Last House On The Left, the beautifully batshit Possession, and the eternally gruesome Cannibal Holocaust.

When you hear Possession, think relationships, not Satan.

But Dolores, you say, I missed all those movies! What about Halloween? I would like to stay home and stay safe! Well, my friend, Rendezvous has a great option for you. While the fangtastic cult mavens at Cinematic Void will be doing a Devil’s Night mystery triple feature, Rendezvous LA will be hosting their very first Halloween all-nighter with a set by DJ Alfonso, founder of Rendezvous LA, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. Here is the list of all these amazing movies:

Curse Of The Crying Woman aka La Maldición de la Llorona

The Boxer’s Omen

Alucarda

Evilspeak

The Blood Spattered Bride aka La Novia Ensangrata

Bad Moon

The Boxer’s Omen

In fact, if you are interested in learning more about what Video Nasties are, Jim Branscome of The Void and DJ Alfonso made an appearance on the Screen Drafts podcast on that very subject here.

One of the most important things about the online film screening series that I have been following since lock down is that I am discovering so many films that I haven’t seen that are amazing. Last weekend’s Rendezvous screening had a title called Unhinged. Let me tell you, I was not prepared for that film’s ending. It was an incredibly enjoyable surprise and a treat that I might have missed. So when you feel the inclination to think, eh, I’ve never heard of that movie, realize that the Rendezvous LA film curators have and there’s definitely a reason they chose those films. I trust their taste and I am looking forward to all these films because I know I am in for a treat. There’s a lot you can learn and a really congenial film community there.

Recommended. Perhaps not for the kids, but recommended.
