The shelter in place edition of The Telluride Horror Show begins today and in its 11th year, they have chosen to go with the virtual film festival model.

In this eleventh edition, they have US premieres of the films THE OAK ROOM, SPARE PARTS, and FAKING A MURDERER. World premieres of BUTCHERS, THE 100 CANDLES GAME, and the restored version of RETRIBUTION, the North American premiere of DARK STORIES and previous festival films THE COLUMNIST and HAIL TO THE DEADITES. Of the 15 feature films at this festival, there are a good number of films that I have never heard of, and I like that. One is a French film called ANONYMOUS ANIMALS directed by Baptiste Rouveure and, frankly, it looks brutal and kind of nuts.

Best of all, their closing night feature is POSSESSOR UNCUT directed by Brandon Cronenberg, so if by chance you have missed your opportunity to catch it at a drive in screening and you are bummed it’s not on VOD yet, here’s another opportunity. As you may know, I have only the highest regard for the film, so my recommendation is that you watch it as soon as possible, safely. This will be at 7pm MST, Sunday, October 18, 2020. The screening is only open to festival pass holders, but the passes are in the reasonable category for a festival at 75 dollars each.

There are a whopping 52 short films available at this festival. 52! So if you love short horror films, this might be the festival for you. This includes ABRECITOS (Spain), ANTIKK (Norway), EXIT (Russian Federation), THE FAMILIARS (Australia), and KARAOKE NIGHT (Portugal). I ask you, who doesn’t have a horror story from a Karaoke night? Relatable.

There will also be events and the headliner, a conversation between Max Brooks (World War Z) and Daniel Krause (The Living Dead, that will be free and open to the public on Saturday, October at 1:00 p.m. MST. There isn’t a description of what they will discuss, but I’m guessing that zombies will probably enter into the conversation judging by the authors’ resumes. The guests for the events open only to pass holders include Ted Raimi, Issa Mazzei, and Daniel Goldhaber. The festival will also have Fright or Wrong Horror Trivia hosted by Brad McHargue and Becky Sayers. There is a series of Creepy Campfire Tales read by authors Emily M. Danforth, Jeremy Robert Johnson, Alma Katsu, and Paul Tremblay. These readings will also be open to the public. You can buy a festival pass here or check out the events live page here. If you want to invest in a full weekend of entertainment, The Telluride Horror Festival is an intriguing option.

Stay safe and watch movies.
